Most video upscaling failures are decided before the upscaler ever runs. The model is rarely the problem; the collapse happens in the small decisions around it — source assessment, parameter selection, batch boundaries, and review contracts. Teams that skip these decisions end up re-rendering for hours and blaming the tool. This guide walks through the decisions that actually matter and ends with a reusable checklist you can apply before any upscaling run.

Assess the Source Before Touching the Upscaler

The first decision is whether the source deserves upscaling at all. A 240p clip with heavy compression artifacts will not become usable at 4K; the upscaler will faithfully enlarge the artifacts. Before committing GPU time, check the source resolution, the codec, and the visible artifact load.

Pick Parameters That Match the Content
